Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
5.0
Update: 5/5/24
Decided to reread this because I was having a rough day and I couldn't have made a better decision. There's something so magical about Elizabeth Lim's writing in general - but this duology specifically - that somehow always makes me feel like everything is okay. There's a wonder and beauty in her writing, amongst the fairytale atmosphere and the beautiful imagery, that makes these books feel like home.
I do want to say: if you're not cis, there's some possible triggering language around Maia's impersonation of her brother. A lot of the conversations around it are because she's pretending to be her brother, not just dressing as a boy, but it could still be uncomfortable for some and I'd rather no one go into this book unaware.
Overall, four and a half years later and this remains one of my favorite books. Today was a horrible day and this reread genuinely helped me get through it. Elizabeth Lim's writing is pure magic.

I rated this 4 stars when I first read it, but the more time that passes, I can't stop thinking about how much I loved this story so to a 5 star it goes lol.
