The Goddess Inheritance by Aimée Carter
3.0
Content warnings: death, destruction, war, forced pregnancy, kidnapping of child, kidnapping of adult
Before I start this review I need to clarify something. I see "mythology" as religion. Because it is in fact, religion. Typically it's a religion that isn't widely practised any more and potentially not practised at all. The term mythology also tends to be used for just about any religious practice that is not a branch of Christianity. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ME USING THE PHRASE RELIGION/RELIGIOUS PRACTICE IN PLACE OF MYTHOLOGY DO NOT READ ANY OF MY REVIEWS FOR THIS SERIES.
This book was definitely a ride.
I mean first off you start with Calliope making Kate get pregnant the first time after their marriage that Kate and Henry have sex. Then you have her abducting Kate and Ava is complicit in helping with the abduction.
Yeah there's a lot of plot points that are so blatantly obvious that it made me want to smack the characters. And Kate and her lack of communication with people. Geesh. Not only that but her obliviousness to really obvious things.
Despite all that I still enjoyed the book. Mostly because Ancient Greek religion put in modern day times. Not modern enough to have cell phones apparently but modern enough to have cars.
The book makes it out like there's this big huge choice that Kate has to make. That's a lie. Because obviously things work out in our hero's favours. It's kind of sad that Ava died because even though a lot of her actions were wrong we also find out that she's basically being manipulated by everyone else.
And Walter's ignorance and shit annoyed the fuck out of me. Just because you're the current king of the Gods doesn't mean that you automatically know what's best. Nor does it mean that you get to use everyone else as your pawn to do your bidding. I think that's one of the things that irritated me the most. Is how callous he was in using Kate and Ava to his own ends and viewed them as "necessary sacrifices".
I think Kate is a little "too good" in some aspects but I guess it kind of works with her character somewhat. It was a good conclusion to the trilogy.
