The Bone Code by Kathy Reichs

4.0

When I first noticed that this book was linked to the TV show Bones I knew I’d want to read this. I’m a sucker for crime shows such as NCIS and Bones has been on my list to watch for a while. Now I know they’re not fully linked but the characters are the same.

I have to say, it did take me a while to get into this, I struggled with the first third probably as I found it very descriptive and sometimes the language barriers confused me. I wanted the action to start straight away and for me I felt there was a touch too much background that wasn’t needed.

However, as I got further into the book I found myself more and more hooked. There are references to Covid in this but they’re quite minor, mere passing references rather than big moments. I found myself hooked on the case and trying to discover what had happened, I always had a little inkling of what was going to happen but I hadn’t panned it out in my head anything like it actually got revealed.

I also found myself learning so much and getting really suckered into the detail on genealogy and vaccine production - ironic compared to my opinions of the start of the book! I’m not sure if this if partly due to Covid and all the talk of vaccines that we hear on an almost daily basis at the moment but I was sucked in. I’ve even googled a few of the facts in this and they are true which has made me love the book more.

This is also making me want to read more books by Kathy because if I can learn something from them as well then that’s an absolute bonus for me! Not only have I enjoyed reading the book but I’ve learnt a load of new bits to!
