The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

4.0

Incase it was not obvious, the second I set down the second book I imeadiately picked up this one and ignored any need and desire for sleep.
description
This book began with an easier to digest opening, since it very much picked up from a similar circumstance the epilogue of the last book departed upon. I won't lie, this was also when my brain started wracking through the title "The Queen of Nothing" and preparing for some massive death scenes.
This novel offered the drama and romance of the prior novel, but with new spice in my opinion. I loved how she was pulled back into the Faerie world, and the reveal of how Cardan was trying to reach out to her, but seemingly ignored him (amongst other Cardan ideals, which made me completely fall in line with that Gnash song [Ex. points to your Hogwarts House if you can't stop singing it now]).
In addition, we finally get an outcome with Madoc that was not only a bit heart-wrenching, but a long time coming. If this were a stage play, you could've heard me from the nose bleeds with all of my excitement.
Then there was the ending and, once again, Holly Black decided to trifle with my heart. I was literally on the edge of my bed chewing on sour candy straws wondering what would happen and if I could handle the results, with that title constantly tugging at my head. Thankfully, Jude's actions resulted in a way that no one could have truly predicted, and my heart (as beaten up at this point as it was from this series) survived.

Overall, I have to congratulate Holly Black. She has been one of my favorite authors since I read her Curse Worker series a while back. However, I was skeptical to start this series after reading her prior faerie works and finding them a bit difficult to enjoy. Nonetheless, she astounded me wholeheartedly with this series, once again reminding me why she is one of my favorite authors. I'm really, truly happy I took the time to read this trilogy, and hope that others take the time to read it as well.

Parental Guidance:
Spoiler Similar to the second book in this trilogy, there is implied sexual content, violence/gore, alcohol, and poison.
