Overall Review (spoilers)
I so forgot the plot twist in this book, and OMG YESS.
I think this is the best book in the Inheritance Cycle. It is clear that Paolini had gotten stronger as a writer at this point, and his ability to fix continuity errors and build his world more is beautiful. I really appreciate the growth of the background characters in this one, especially Roran and Katrina’s characters.
I will say, and I have always said this about Paolini, I wish his female characters arcs were not built around men. I think this book starts separating them from the male’s stories, but still everything seemed focused on furthering Eragon, Roran, or even Murtagh’s story over the female characters own internal motivations. But, this is high fantasy and most male authors still can’t write female characters that aren’t one dimensional, so Paolini gets a pass for just having female characters that have their own personality.
