Abandoned in Death by J.D. Robb

3.0

Eh. It was okay.

I still love the characters and the world; I really enjoyed a couple of new characters introduced in this instalment, specifically
SpoilerMary Kate
, though I don't know if we'll ever see her again. I didn't really love the flashback installments; I understand why they were there, but they didn't do their job for me and instead just sort of sucked me out of the part of the story I was here for.

I also didn't love the amnesia plotline. Like. That's not how it works. Somebody show me one single study of even one single patient in which this actually happened in real life, and that's not even counting how apparently
Spoiler amnesia deletes addictions???
. I know, I know, suspend your disbelief, but it felt like just a poor excuse
Spoiler to make us feel sorry for Lisa/Violet and give a "good" reason for her not coming back for her kid. Maybe an equally good reason would have been that she genuinely thought he had a better life after being adopted and didn't want to disrupt that, or the adopted parents refused to let her get in touch with him?

Spoiler I feel kinda bad for the lab, tbh. Between this and Obsession in Death, they're losing workers to murderous behaviour left and right. Time to get some group therapy in?

The sneak peek of the next one is very interesting though and I'm really looking forward to it!
