The whole story is allegedly written 5000 years in the future depicting the society today and this frame is genius. You as a reader have to reconsider and rethink the past, present and future in a slap-to-the-face way.
As for the main story. A couple of really fleshed out characters that stays with you, for good or for bad. You can’t ever relax and just enjoy the ride (even though the writing is straightforward and clean) because sooner or later, often sooner, you get unpleasantness right up your cosy self. And you get it.
