This is the first thriller/horror book I’ve read in quite awhile, simply because I was having a hard time not finding any that weren’t predictable and repetitive. Picked this up because it sounded interesting and was not disappointed. A bit science heavy in the beginning but that only served to make the scenario more plausible and unsettling in my eyes. Going from a safe scientific venture to a horror movie creature chase happens in the blink of an eye and so abruptly it helps carry the reader with the main characters. There were a lot of main characters and I had difficulty remembering who was who during the second half of the book, but again, I was more focused on the “alien” creatures. If you’re at all interested in the ancient aliens theory, whether to believe or scoff at, this is an interesting read. Would absolutely recommend.
Two trigger warnings for the beginning of the book: mass unaliving, mentions of sexual assault, descriptions of dead infant and mother unalived while trying to reach it. The rest of the triggers are normal body horror, psych horror things, but those surprised me, so heads up.
