Thornhill is told by two girls, Mary and Ella.  Mary lives at the orphanage of Thornhill in 1982.  Ella lives in 2017 in a house close to the now-abandoned building.  Mary, whose story is told through her diary entries, has selective muteness, and never speaks to anyone.  The other students bully her by mocking her for the puppets she creates, playing mean tricks, and ignoring her.  Ella's story is told through black-and-white illustrations.  Her mother is dead, and her father is rarely home.  Ella sees Mary's ghost and finds the abandoned puppets that Mary left behind. The two girls discover they have more in common than meets the eye....

This book is spooky and fabulous for fans of Coraline!
