Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend
5.0
Such a fun read that is clearly a middle grade book with its "adventures" and how the trails are made up, but can be read by adults without feeling utterly childish.
I love how the kids in this book are not behaving as if every adult is either stupid or wouldn't care, just as i love how the adults in this book don't behave as if the children have no understanding of what is going on around them.
I also really enjoy that there is a friendship that is beautifully written in this book without trying to shove in some romance as i sadly saw in other middle grade books since i honestly can not see why anyone at the age of 11 would be romantically interested in anyone. So that was also very nice.
Yes anyone that says that there is nothing new and there are a lot of similarities to other story in this book is right. BUT at the same time Townsend didn't copy exactly, she clearly took her own spin to the already existing ideas and made those her own and her own story. And really what more can you expect? Is there really anything new that hasn't been done in one form or another?
What i do have to heavily disagree with is that its similar to Harry Potter. Its really not. Sure there is types of magic and there is a child that is not being treated right BUT thats all there is in similarities really. And honestly how many middle grade books can you name that have that much in common with HP but are NOT constantly compared to the book?
Depending on how well the author continues on with this series the only other similarity i can see with HP is that it might also be one day become a favorite for a lot of people since it does have all the right quantities and stands up beautifully to re-reading!
All in all so worth a read, and such a fun and entertaining time at that!
