Whatever intrigue and mystery this novel has was completely lost in the bloated text. It’s about 150-200 pages too long. The premise had my interest, but none of the main characters are likeable, least of all Valeria. She's incredibly unkind to everyone else, even the people on her side. I stopped rooting for her ⅔ in. I wouldn't have finished the novel if it hadn't been assigned reading.
