Beach Read by Emily Henry

1.0

Wow. This was not good. And I kid you not, now that I have a few Henry books under my belt, she's writing the same female character repeatedly guys. Same with the dude. There's almost always an affair or dumping, and the female character decides she wants the love interest and he goes "no, no we must not" cause friendship and then they have lackluster sex. And then the book just goes on and on to the point you don't even see the point of it!

And I think what gets my goat the most, I bought this at an Adult Book Fair [Friends to Lovers--new bookstore in Old Town Alexandria] and it has gold foil all over and a new ending and it sucked. You also had to read some of her other books to even know who some of the 'surprise' characters are that she talks about.

"Beach Read" follows romance writer January Andrews. January is at her father's secret beach house, getting it ready to sell while dealing with writer's block. Next door to her is Augustus Everett who is a best selling author of "serious fiction" also dealing with writer's block. They eventually have a series of terrible interactions til they meet one evening and decide to change genres.

I don't know. I was over it. And when I read the ending of the book that Augustus wrote I was like WTF is wrong with you?

Honestly there was too much "stuff" in this one. January had to deal with ending a relationship, her messed up relationship with both her parents, writer's block, her best friend, etc. etc. etc. It just kept going to the point that I just lost interest. I was waiting for something to happen and it just does not. Even when the two leads get together it's just dumb misunderstandings and I was sick and over it.

Everett is not compelling at all. I was sick of reading about his eyes and how his hair fell.

This was bad. I feel bad that I bought it, read it, and kept reading it when it was irking my ever loving soul.
