The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

5.0

"...a good thief requires many things.
Stealth. Nerve. Speed
More important than any of those things, however, was one final requirement.
Luck." (pg. 117)

Interesting narrative and point of view. First person narrative of death. I have found myself chuckling at some of the character descriptions and story telling of Zusak. Once you get past the initial strangeness and abrupt narrative of the book, it sucks you in. Really liking the novel so far.

Favorite Quotes:

"People observe the colors of the day only at its beginning and ends, but to me it's quite clear that a day merges through a multitude of shades and intonations, with each passing moment. A single hour can consist of thousands of different colors. Waxy yellows, cloud-spat blues. Murky darknesses. In my line of work, i make it a point to notice them." (pg. 4)

"...he was also enjoying the ecstasy of an idea, not daring just yet to envision its complications, dangers, and vicious absurdities. For now, the idea was enough. It was indestructible. Transforming it into reality, well, that was something else together..." (pg. 128)

"When death captures me," the boy vowed. "he will feel my fist on his face."
Personally, I quite like that. Such stupid gallantry.
Yes.
I like that a lot.
