This is a cute mystery, not a cozy mystery but not dark either. It centers around Pip, a high school senior who decides to solve a local missing person/murder case and exonerate the supposed perpetrator. The town loves beautiful and perfect Andie Bell. And with as much admiration as they have for Andie, they have an equal measure of disdain for Sal Singh and his family. The police have said Sal killed Andie (his girlfriend) and then killed himself. They have a confession and evidence they say. But Pip is not so sure, so she sets out to investigate with Ravi, Sal’s brother. As she investigates, she realizes that perfect Andie Bell was not so perfect after all, that those closest to her are hiding dreadful secrets that could tear the world she knew apart, that danger is closer than she thinks, and maybe through it all something good can come out of all the bad as well. I liked Pip and Ravi. While there were times I thought some of her actions were incredibly naive and, well just plain dumb, I thought it made her more realistic because she is just a kid in high school. The dichotomy of her constantly worrying about high school stuff like her college essays playing against her being this observant detective was well done. Her family was so sweet and supportive - everyone needs a dad like hers. And the strange yet heartbreaking conclusion makes this a really fun mystery.
