This is the first book in the Celestial Devotion series, a fantasy romance about a woman looking for answers about her brother’s disappearance and a prince willing to use her to save himself. There are a few spicy scenes.

The Lovely: I fell in love with the MMC. So often we see broody MMCs that are flat and do not have any apparent (or known) reason for their broody-ness. Not here though. It’s evident from early on why the MMC is broody - he’s got a life full of issues and no clear path to solving them. To me, this made him feel more realistic and relatable.
The Mundane: I had a hard time getting into this story. The pacing for the first 1/3 to 1/2 felt slow - too slow to hold interest. Although I liked the dramatic and kind of wild ending, it was hard to get to that point. There is a lot of inner monologue, especially near the beginning, and it felt like the most mundane things were being described. Enough so that descriptions and narrations started to feel repetitive. There was not a lot of world building or description of the magic system so it was hard to understand what was happening or the parameters of the magic.
Recommendation: I received an advance review copy and my thoughts are my own. I loved how dark the story was and despite the items above, I will likely read book two when it is released. The ending was a wild ride. There are unanswered questions that I’m rolling around in my mind trying to determine if we already have the clues to the answers. This made the last quarter or so of the book more engaging for me and made me want to keep reading the series.
