I knew this story (or I thought I did) incredibly well due to my childhood love for the musical that culminated in me playing the role of the artful dodger alongside my twin brother playing Oliver in our year 7 school production. So you can imagine my surprise and delight for the parts of the story complete new to me. It was a wonderful read that still holds up in many ways. Although the blatant antisemitism against Fagin and other characters was oddly surprising and very unpleasant
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Child abuse, Antisemitism, Murder
Moderate: Animal death, Child death
It’s definitely a book of it’s time and it’s plot nature requires a lot of dark topics. It’s also a Dickens novel so it’s depressing in many ways but there is atleast some form of justice found.
