The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
5.0
I'm impressed that Brandon Sanderson has so many different ideas for magic across his books. I also really liked how alien this world felt—Sanderson went to great lengths at times to explain how the world worked and all its little oddities that were considered normal. Even the cultures and cultural dynamics were interesting. There were a fair amount of very distinct characters that he had to juggle in this epic, and I'm really glad he did as well balancing and completing their stories as he did.
Great book, but only read if you're willing to dive into a foreign world and learn its cultures so it will make sense. Sanderson always does a good job explaining his ideas and even the background behind them within the world's history, but I nearly didn't read it because I didn't want to put in the time to let my mind shift gears.
