I often forget or struggle to comprehend in my day-to-day life how deep God’s love really is for me. Sometimes when we have a hard time understanding something, a fresh voice and perspective can help it sink in. That’s what this book did for me. I’ll never wrap my head around the grandness of this love (I think that’s kind of the point of something so infinite), but everything changes when we learn to view God the way he really is rather than the way our small, human and fallen minds perceive him. This is a process that happens little by little, because God has so many marvellous attributes to discover… but this book is a good start.
Ortlund does an excellent job of bringing us back to the basics and drawing our eye to the beauty of the gospel; what it means to be saved, forgiven. Pieces of Scripture are explained in-depth and brought to life throughout the book, and there are certain passages that will carry a lot more weight when I read them from now on.
I’ll be adding Gentle & Lowly to my permanent collection. A must-read for any believer who knows of God’s love, but struggles to truly take this knowledge to heart.
