A City of Emeralds and Envy by Rebecca F. Kenney
3.0
Hey! I'm so glad to be here, and to say this: This was by far the best book of this series! I loved all the connections that were made from Alice's story and brought over into Oz, and I love who all of the characters ended up being.
There was so much plot here compared to all the other books in this series (that I've read so far) and I was over the moon to be able to skip the smut and actually still enjoy myself.
I love Dotorhy. She is such a dark character, and her sneering at all the softness and kindness of the other characters throughout the book make me happier than it should have. And I loved her back and forth with West. I'm a sucker for a “I hate you, but I love you” trope.
More than anything, I'm so happy that Alice finally got her story. I was so let down when her story ended up being so focused on Clara and Fin, and so I'm over the moon that she got her finale. I was also really happy to see that her story didn't overwhelm Dorothy’s. They meshed really well, and the story just worked.
If you don't take this story too seriously, it's a lot of fun. In my opinion, it is significantly better than the rest in the series.
