Everyone, I have officially taken my oaths to the No Peak clan.
Jade War is a jaw dropping, adrenaline inducing follow up to Jade City. In this sequel, Fonda Lee takes us out of Janloon, off the island of Kekon and introduces more of the world, bringing in global politics, international wars, shady deals, new alliances and formidable enemies.
If I thought the characters were the major highlight in Jade City, Jade War elevates them to a higher level. Every character, even characters from the rival clan, has so much depth. Their decisions, for good or worse, make complete sense. You can just tell that Lee writes each one with the utmost care and a deep understanding. You find yourself rooting for them despite their faults.
There was never a dull moment in this book. Each scene and every POV was necessary to the plot and the stakes kept getting higher and higher with each chapter. The last few chapters were a rollercoaster of nerves, stress, and anticipation.
I finished this book at the end of 2023 and I can wholeheartedly say this was my favorite read of last year. I loved Jade City, but reading Jade War is where I realized that I'll forever love and recommend the Green Bone Saga trilogy. It's safe to say that I'm 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 invested in the Kaul family.
