When I was told 'Thing Hunger Games but with dragons.' I was a little intrigued but worried that this was yet another BookTok craze I wouldn't get. I picked up the book about 10 days ago, unsure if I wanted to give this book a true.

30 pages in and I was hooked! It wasn't overly cliched, the world was new and fresh and allowed for a new take on things.

I loved the main character, Violet. She was fragile, a person so easily ill or injured but also so strong, determined and stubborn. She wasn't what people expected her to be and didn't fit in the box that people assumed she belonged in. Violet always had an uphill battle but wasn't whiney or pathetic. She was resilient, strong and so honestly human. I adored her for all her faults.

When it comes to our secondary characters, they were just as brilliant and well written. They supported, they encouraged and they doubted. There was never an automatic acceptance of everything. I hate when things seem all too perfect and so I have extra praise for author Rebecca Yarros. She allowed for the different personalities, the strengths in her characters and accommodated all their needs and desires in order to bring about a new and incredible world.

I recommend this book to anyone wanting to give fantasy a go, to any romance fan or to anyone just wanting a great read. This was BRILLIANT! I cannot wait for book two!
