Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury

I've said before that some stories and ideas simply cannot be shared via realistic/historic fiction alone. This is one of those books. While the writing itself was a little weak, and the modern narrator was kind of irritating/overly preachy I enjoyed it. I don't know if it needed the second narrator at all. If you want to read a book about mommy issues, this. is the one.

""You can't leave yourself unprotected like that. You need to be on guard...You can never clear your mind."
"Why," my voice was a whisper
"Because you might let something else in"...
...It wasn't as simple as just never meditating. I had to constantly pay attention to any attempts on my mind. I needed to be vigilant. It stuck with me, penetrated my kid brain."
