The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
5.0
Like pretty much everyone else, I watched The Haunting of Bly Manor when it came out in 2020. I wasn't impressed. I figured that, like most adaptations, the book would be better, and I'm so glad I read this, because it was. What a story! The language was a bit hard to follow in places, but I really liked the main character. It was so surprising to find a female lead in a book from this time period who was so determined to save herself and not rely on some man to swoop in and do it for her! The audiobook I listened to was narrated by Emma Thompson, and her performance was magnificent, too!
