Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica

4.0

Well I've heard for a while to read this one. I'm definitely glad that I did. I have to say the only reason why this isn't 5 stars is just because it took a while for me to get the rhythm of the book and I was a little confused about the different points of view until all of the timeline started to make sense to me. Full review to come.

Full review: What a winding mystery we get here! "Local Woman Missing" follows several women, and a teen boy. The women are: Meredith Dickey, Shelby Tebow, and a woman named Kate. The teen boy is Meredith's son, Leo. The book follows the events 11 years before Meredith went missing and then 11 years later when Meredith's missing daughter, Delilah is found.

Meredith is a doula and happily married with two young children, Leo and Delilah. However, we quickly find out that someone seems to be following Meredith, and texting her threatening messages. When she starts to get way more involved with one of her clients, Shelby Tebow, she starts to wonder if she's connected to what is happening to her or not. We follow Meredith, 11 years before.

Kate, is a vet, married to her wife Bea and a neighbor and friend of Meredith. We see Kate 11 years before trying to figure out how both Shelby and Meredith went missing and doing what she can to investigate with her wife.

Leo, we see now as a young adult, we follow him 11 years after the events that led to Meredith missing and trying to figure out the sister that has been lost to him all of this time.

I thought that Kubica did a great job of jumping back and forth between the three narratives and timelines. I will say though, that it takes a while for you to realize what timeline is happening "first" so to speak so that may throw you for a bit.

The flow of the book was good, but at one point though I was like what the heck when we get a twist about someone close to Leo's father. I had a lot of questions and the whole thing got glossed over. I wish that had been referred to in the end, but it was not.

The ending was really good and you don't see it coming at all about what led to Shelby and Meredith disappearing.
