This is the first romance book I read that is written by a man. I’m not sure what my expectations were, I think I was just curious. I can safely report that it’s not much different from any other female written ones.
I do think that the male thought process is more straightforward, not simpler but more direct. With less emotional nuances that men written by women. This is not a bad thing, in my opinion. It just lets you see men from their own perspective. It was interesting and very enjoyable.
In this book, two men grew up together, became firefighters together and then ended up together. The path to get there was fraught with challenges and pain, but the story was beautiful.
This was also my first time reading about 9/11, and from the POV of the first responders. I’ve always shied away from it because it’s tough and anxiety inducing. And indeed it was tough, but necessary to understand the depth of the feelings between these two.
How difficult it must be to live in a homophobic world and still love someone with all your heart, even if it makes you queer. This community is so brave.
Ok so about the actual story. Griff loves Dante, but Dante doesn’t know. Dante is in financial trouble and finds a solution: porn deal with his best friend.
It is so much more though, we have an Italian found family, adorable conversations with a 4yo girl, Brooklyn, finding out that gay people are just people, and armpits licking
