Photographic: The Life of Graciela Iturbide by Isabel Quintero

4.0

A poetic biography of Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide. This book accomplishes a couple of notable feats. It not only imparts knowledge of Iturbide's influences and creative philosophies, but the graphic novel also manages to frame included photographs in a way that emphasizes rather than taking away from their importance. The writing and art feel like they have rhythm and space to breathe so when a photograph of Iturbide's appears it really hits you with its power. My only additional wish is that there had been a bit more detail explaining things like names of relatives and what happened to them, even just in the biographical overview at the end.
