The Measure by Nikki Erlick
5.0
I'll make a confession right now that I'm just a wee bit stingy with 5-star ratings, but The Measure easily gets all the Stars. In fact, it is now in the running for my favorite read this year.
Heart-shattering, inspiring, thought-provoking...this book truly gave me all the feels. It's such a unique premise: the whole world wakes up one morning to find a box, and in this box lies a string whose length tells you the length of your life. We follow eight individuals and get to be immersed in their lives after the strings. We also witness the worldwide effects of these boxes. All the thought and the detail that Nikki Erlick put into building this world was astounding to me. The story could have easily fallen flat; it could have easily turned overly saccharine; instead, it hit that sweet spot. Inspiring, humbling, redemptive...I feel like this is a book you close those final chapters as a different person than you were when you began it. I also cannot recommend it enough for book clubs... it will spark some deep and reflective discussion.
