Big Feelings: How to Be Okay When Things Are Not Okay by Liz Fosslien, Mollie West Duffy

4.0

Liz and Mollie are great at helping individuals develop skills and strategies for mental health and resilience without letting our dysfunctional society off the hook (i.e. you can do things to manage anger or burnout but that doesn't mean that those feelings weren't justified!). This book takes us through a series of big feelings, including regret, despair, uncertainty, perfectionism, and more. Not all of these were feelings I struggled with, and I ended up skimming a couple of chapters. But there should be something in here to help everyone with one big feeling or another. The book clearly breaks down myths about these feelings, and provides constructive, empathetic steps to take to improve the situation.

The book finishes with a series of assessments, further reading and other handy resources for coping with various big feelings. Overall it's a useful, accessible book that could assist someone with short-term big feelings, or more lasting mental health challenges.
