My Friends Call Me Monster (Goosebumps Horrorland #7) by R.L. Stine
3.0
When Michael goes snooping through his teacher’s attic, he finds things he’s not supposed to. His teacher is obsessed with monsters, and so when he finds her collection of eggs, could they be monster eggs? This one was actually really gross and the descriptions were a bit disgusting, but that also brought up the horror factor. This story felt short compared to the previous stories we’ve read. That didn’t hurt the story, but it did leave the reader feeling like ‘that was it?’. Michael as a main character was alright, his hot-headedness was a bit much, but it did move the story along. If he wasn’t so head strong, it felt like there would have been no story and nothing would have happened. As for the Horrorland part of this story, it felt longer than most and we’re expanding the story arc, finally! The reader asked and they received. We’re learning about a new theme park called Panic Park, and now the reader is very curious about that. This had a different approach in terms of how it was laid out. Michael was brought into the fold in the previous book, so he kinda continued the story, but we just followed him, with a few of the older characters were there in passing. It didn’t feel as stale and boring, and the reader’s interest has peaked back up.
