The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle
5.0
Harnessing the power of NOW, the power of living in the present is no small fete. In a fast-moving world hardly do we allow ourselves to pause and take stock of the present time. Eckhart Tolle, a spiritual teacher, in his book the power of Now focuses on the importance of the power of presence, the awakening of consciousness which supersedes ego.
Going through this book, one thing remained true, you have to go in with an open mind. Eckhart Tolle’s way of thinking is not conventional neither is it popular opinion, it however is enlightening and an essential way of provoking thought and change. It is an extraordinary book that makes the reader look within. It made me pause and deliberate on what it is I value.
We will always have “something to do,’ or ‘somewhere to be’’, in the midst of all the day-to-day, how often do we recognize what is actually going on. Always chasing the next goal post, always on the next agenda. Focusing on the big milestone and negating the small stuff, yet life is an accumulation of the small stuff.
Eckhart Tolle, uses simple language, he feels authentic and the simple question-and-answer approach helps guide the reader. It reads as a help book, and it is not a book you read as an entertainment piece, this is a book you study, so go in ready to take a few notes.
Excerpts
-Not being able to stop thinking is a dreadful affliction, but we don’t realize this because almost everybody is suffering from it, so it is considered normal.
-Highly alert and aware but not thinking. This is the essence of meditation
- If you really want to know your mind, the body will always give you a truthful reflection, so look at the emotion, or rather feel it in your body. If there is an apparent conflict between them, the thought will be the lie, the emotion will be the truth.
-How to stop creating time? Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make now the primary focus of your life.
-Why are you always anxious?... Can anxious thought add s single day to your life?
The power of Now is not a one-time read, it is a book that I find myself going back to every now and then, as is with learning or unlearning any new habit it is not easy to always stay on track. But it is worth a try every time. This book creates an experience and provokes the need to change in its readers.
It is a worthwhile read, a must-read, a book that reminds us even with everything going on around us NOW is all we have. The past is gone, the future is uncertain and NOW is where we exist and where we need to learn to live.
