You Between the Lines by Katie Naymon
5.0
If you are obsessed with angsty romances, then you're going to want to pick this up IMMEDIATELY.
Leigh is a pop-culture loving former sorority girl reeling from her parent's recent separation who has accepted into a prestigious MFA program for poetry. She wants to be a true poet, but struggles with facing criticism and rejection. One the first day of her MFA program, she discovers her high school crush-turned nemesis, Will, is also in her program - and he can't stop writing poems about her.
Sometimes you pick up a random book during a really hard week, and it feels like the book was just meant for you. Katie Naymon wrote some of the most beautiful lines (both in prose and poetry) that at times were so heartbreaking but were so relatable.
Leigh is so relatable - a chronic people pleaser - she is messy and imperfect, but that's what makes reading her so wonderful. She's trying to be what she thinks everyone wants - or expects - from her. Her growth in overcoming these tendencies was extremely heartwarming. Will also experienced a lot of growth over the course of the book - he had his own insecurities and needed to come to terms with this relationship with his father. I loved seeing Leigh and Will help each other, but also grow individually as well.
Overall, this was one of my favorite reads. Something about the writing, the poetry, and the storyline healed my soul and I just fell in love with Leigh and Will.
