Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston

3.0

It’s a middle grade text so I will not fault it’s plot and characters for being so virtuously on the nose. But because it’s middle grade I can’t forgive it for including a “some of you are more talented than others” trope. The paper badges versus golden badges mechanism perpetuates the idea that the book seems to fight, that you aren’t what people think of you. Also Agent Fiona’s use of “ye” seems inconsistent.
