The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

4.0

So, Alicia is an artist that was convicted of murdering her husband, but since the moment she was arrested she hasn’t uttered a word. She went to a psychiatric hospital, and in six years she still hasn’t spoken. Everyone had given up on her. That is until Theo. He is a trauma therapist that really wants to help her.
I think this brief summary doesn’t spoil anything ☺️

I’ve been meaning to read this book for ages. Everyone raves about it. Well, I loved it. But I have mixed feelings about it.
I loved the writing style. I love the plot. It’s in 1st person single POV from Theo, but we have chapters with entries from Alicia’s diary. That was fun.
I think the book is a masterpiece of sorts. You know. I think the author did a splendid work. The diary was key. Always the key. And I didn’t even know it.
I do think a lot of people won’t line the ending. But I do think it was appropriate and necessary to conclude Alicia story. She made the choice of being silent after all.
Why not five stars?
The timeline was what mess me up. Because things didn’t match. I can’t tell you why, because that would ruin your experience of going in blind, as you should. So I really can’t tell you why.
The book was amazing. I literally couldn’t put it down, and I read it in one sitting.

Happy Readings
