I adore the intimate feel I get from reading Chancy's novels. It's a warm hug even when the themes are heavy and the characters flawed.
Village Weavers is no different and its beauty comes through from the measured way in which Sisi and Gertie's story unfolds.
For me, the time taken to build character arcs and storylines is paramount to bonding with and coming to understand the individuals portrayed on page and this novel succeeds by doing just that, taking time.
Friends who were separated by a secret not their own and kept apart must find a way to forgive mistakes and hopefully make their way back to each other again. But these kinds of relationships always take time to heal and the importance of both parties being aware and doing the work is the cornerstone to success.
I love a multi-perspective, multi-timelined book. Moving back and forth from childhood to young adulthood and finallly to a mature age really helps to cement the progress of growth of these characters, fleshes out the plot, and leads to major gains for me as a reader. I am now more immersed in the loves and lives of her MCs, their grappling with choices, and the ultimate outcome of reconciliation or something akin.
