THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF MY 2018!
description
EVERYTHING IS ON POINT, well except for some teenie weenie cracks.

I only knew 2 facts about the Tudor Dynasty (one: The War of Roses w/c sounds pretty but it just ends w/ a wedding XD two: There's a lot of Henry's and Edward's in their lineage) and I haven't heard anything about a Lady Jane Grey. In my search, I've found that she was known as the nine day queen because yup she died after her limited regime. This book, however, immortalizes Lady Jane Grey and tweaks history while adding magical powers in the plot.

I never read the blurb when I started reading this one and initially, I thought this was going to be a grueling task to finish. Because for one thing, it's a historical fiction which entails (for me) slow pacing and a lot of highfalutin words. OHOHOHO was I wrong. This book managed to pull off such a humorous voice and kind of a breaking the fourth wall narration which, I don't see much often in books! I really enjoyed the witty banters among the characters and I have to stop myself from highlighting every funny remark. Which is why I decided to not add an opening quote in my review 😂 Everything is just freaking quotable.

Aside from the excellent character build up and hilarious narratives there are also things that I haven't liked that much. Some "action scenes" dare I say just happen to be neatly tied and given an easy resolution, other than that I have no complaints. Besides, I think the narrators here wanted a lighter approach and they also educated us readers with little tidbits of history along the way without the burden of an info dump. I kept on laughing while reading and listening to the audiobook. On that note, the audiobook is a commendable one as well! The accent and nuances of every character are effectively acted by the voice actress.

This is a great introduction to historical fiction and a recommended read for everyone!
