My Brother's Teammates by Lasairiona McMaster, Melissa Ivers
Did not finish book.
2.0
Unfortunately this book was not for me, which was really a shame because the basic points were there: forced proximity, brother's best friend, ice hockey romance, childhood friends, why choose. When I read these items I was amazed, it almost seemed too good to be true. Well, it was. Whilst I am normally a pretty fast reader, this book took me almost twice as long to finish. It started off strong, it was fast paced but I kept up easily. I liked that it was straight to the point.
Unfortunately, the conflict was also in the beginning of the book Instead of at the end. The conflict the ENTIRE book remained the same; the brother finding out/keeping him in the dark. This was waaaaayy too dragged out, there wasn't a scene that didn't mention the brother. I couldn't enjoy the good stuff because it was always tainted while the issues could've just been resolved if they had talked to the brother.
Furthermore, I thought there were many missed opportunities. I thought the author could've really profited off of some details. Like the backstory of Charlotte and Jace, of how she used to stay with him in high school at night. There wasn't really any character development either, there were signs Charlotte was really insecurity about her designs and starting her own business, but they literally ripped it off her 'in the heat of the moment'. Like, she spent so much time and effort making it and all down the drain it goes.
I was at 82% and i really tried to finish it, it seemed like a waste to dnf it, but i genuinely could not finish it. It was too much for me.
