Starfish by Lisa Fipps

Such a beautifully written story that I felt I could relate to in so many ways. The message is so strong, you are beautiful for who you are, stay true to that!

This is the tale of young Ellie. She has forever struggled with her weight and feels that that is all people say. It has gotten to the point where she fails to see her own self worth. She feels no-one but her Dad is on her side, and sometimes he betrays her too.

Ellie begins to learn that she is loved, and by doing that she loves herself. She begins to stand up for herself, see her beauty and understand her potential.

Lisa Fipps uses free verse poetry to tell a story that is so relatable, heart breaking and full of hope all at once. There were so many times I wanted to wrap Ellie up in hugs and tell her she is okay, it will be okay. But what's more, I learnt a thing of two from Ellie as well. I learn about how I see myself and how to be kinder to myself.

This is a book I am going to be recommending to all ages. From my students and their parents and my friends and family. This is a book we all need to read.

All words have power, and we need to be more aware of that.
