I'm going to be brief with my review, but unfortunately I did not care for this book. I ended up skimming the majority of it. It was that or DNF (which I nearly did at 30% and 50%). I appreciated the twist, the spice was good, the author's writing style intriguing, but I hated both of the main characters. I could not find anything about them to connect or invest in and unfortunately this caused me to check out of the book.

My biggest issue is with Malec....he is an ancient fae creature, right? So why does he act so naïve and young? I see this all too often in books where authors write characters that are hundreds and thousands of years old.... but they behave like they're in their young 20s. I might have forgiven it if that had actually been his age, it would have been expected.

If you like spicy, fast quick fantasy books then this might be for you. Even better if you enjoy a retelling.
