The Last Animal by Ramona Ausubel

5.0

I absolutely loved the Last Animal. The relationship between a scientist mother, Jane, and her two daughters Vera and Eve was so complex and fully fleshed out in writing. I appreciated the approach to how people deal with grief differently, as well as making something "meaningful" with your life. The detailed descriptions of Italy, Iceland, and Siberia made me feel as if I were there as well. The science was not heavy at all and easy to understand. This book really explores what it means to resurrect the past and when it should stay where it is.
