The Darkest Secret by Gena Showalter
4.0
So far this has been my favorite LOTU installment. I really like Amun. I didn't know much about him before this book as he didn't seem to get a lot of attention so I was excited to start this book and I wasn't let down. I like that he doesn't speak, I think because of that his personality is different than the other warriors and he isn't as cocky and his mouth doesn't seem to get him into trouble.
I also really liked that for a moment him and Strider were interested in the same woman, I don't recall that happening in any of her other novels and it was interesting to see the struggle Strider was going through.
I also liked Haidee. Altho all the name changes on her part throughout the book confused me a bit at first, she is just about the first female character I have enjoyed, because she wasn't as predictable as the others seem to be.
I really liked the turn the story took in the last five chapters, I just clung to the book wanting more. I'm glad to see Amun and Strider finally had it out, I was hoping it wouldn't just fizzle away and be something we never heard of again. Also all the secrets that are told in the last few chapters are incredible.
The only thing I did not like about this book was the amount of useless filler. Just random things we didn't need to read, I felt like it could have easily cut 5-10 chapters out of the book if a lot of the chapters had less filler which got boring to read at times.
