The Familiars by Stacey Halls
5.0
I cannot even begin to tell you how incredible this book was. I went into the book with a completely open mind, having not know a lot about the Pendle Witches. Wha I did know was very limited as the history is very local to me (I'm in Burnley), with Gawthorpe hall being a mere 5 minute drive from my house!
The way this book was written was absolutely incredible and almost taught you a little history whilst painting a fantastical feminine driven story. The place names and the people are what really brought the book home for me, as the names were recognisable, perhaps making them more relatable within the story. I surprisingly found all the characters rather likeable too.
Also. A BBC adaption of this would be: FAB!!!
If you want a book that has some strong independent women, a dose of 1612 sass and book steeped in history, then this is definitely one for you.
