My favorite arc of the story. The events Kyutaro's parents and Takashi went through are heartbreaking, but I love the way the story is told. It immerses the reader in the past, but also takes breaks to the present day to check in with the characters (thus also with the readers) to ensure it's okay to keep going and that everyone's hanging in there. The absolute devastation on Kyutaro and Fumi's faces by the end hits hard, but I love the first decision he made after getting over his shock. I was very shocked by the role Toko, Kyutaro's mom, had, and the love between her and Yataro, Kyutaro's dad, was lovely if a bit... odd -- very much in line with the mangaka's style.
