Unruly: The Ridiculous History of England's Kings and Queens by David Mitchell

5.0

Hilarious and irreverent overview of the Kings and Queens of England from Arthur (spoiler alert, not a real person) through Elizabeth I. If you're familiar with David Mitchell from any of his work reading this book feels like watching one of his extended monologues. He covers the key points of history, interspersed with witty, dry and often sarcastic observations, and meanders off on personal tangents but always manages to bring it back around. While I didn't agree with 100% of the takeaways, I appreciated the book as a whole; it's no mean feat condensing all those reigns, plus jokes, into just over 400 pages.
