The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
4.0
Trigger warning at the bottom.
I might have been the last person to have read this. I got this as part a ‘book basket Secret Santa’ gift and I finally had a gap in library holds and was able to read it.
As I started reading, I was not optimistic that I was going to like the book (partly based on the trigger warning - see below). At first, it felt too much like a Christmas Carol and I was waiting for the Ghost of Christmas whatever to jump out. Thankfully it took an inverse approach and showed how Nora’s actions (and the desires of others) impact her own life.
I liked the message at the end where Nora didn’t have to define her happiness and success by her job, but it did give the impression that much of who she is based on what other people think of her, which unfortunately hits too close to home for me.
