I don't know if anyone today can write such a wholesome, heartwarming book and be as revered as Alcott. It is really refreshing and soul replenishing to be able to read a book like Little Women in the midst of all the horrors of real life and fictional life where tragedy, violence and sordidness are celebrated with such glee and honour.
As a mother of a pre-teen, it is especially lovely to read about the four March sisters who even at the age of sixteen going on seventeen, retain their childlike innocence and striving to be good people. Sure, they don't experience any real tragedy, nor are they mistreated or abused, but it's about how they each try to be their best selves in the every day and that is the most important thing for any human being. They each struggle with their own selfish desires and don't always triumph. Yet they forgive each other and themselves and just get on with it. We definitely need a lot more of the March spirit today and every day.
