Quotes:
-“He wants to believe that playing by the monarchys rules will keep us safe, but nothing can protect us when those rules are rooted in hate.”
-“You raised me fighting monsters.” I muttered, stepping forward with my sword. “It took far too long to understand that the real monster was you.”
Loved this book from the beginning. Listened to the audiobook while following along in the hardcover copy and what a wonderful experience. The audio is so great and the accents are chefs kiss. I loved hearing her chant the magic spells. Always appreciate when books have a map you can refer to in order to get the full experience. Enjoyed the three pov characters but really i liked all the characters. Even that snaggletooth daddy. Everyone was written to play their part. So if you like black people with magic, different power elements, fighting, gods/ancestors, family and a great storyline then this is for you.
thoughts:
-Inan had me really rooting for him. Smh.
-Zélle is a great lead FMC. She brought all the feels and didn’t play about speaking her mind.
-Amari growth was amazing. We do the right thing and still doubt ourselves. Sometimes. Babygirl pushed through. Chapter 83 she played no games.
-Tzain was getting on Zélle but he did what brothers should do.
-There was little romance/flirtation.
-The jealousy was thick. Mad because you don’t have something that makes you standout. So instead you destroy. Wanna be alpha male syndrome.
-Sky Mother ♥️
