Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
5.0
Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda is an amazing story of weird high school normality and what it means to be part of today's society. It follows Simon, a high school boy who is gay. He hasn't told anyone, that is, he hasn't told anyone in person. He has been corresponding with a boy over email, one who is also gay from his school but will not reveal his true identity. As Simon tries to figure out who Blue is, he also has to deal with Martin, a kid who is blackmailing him after he accidentally read Simon's emails to Blue. And what will it mean for him when it's finally time to come out?
Not going to lie. I watched the movie Love, Simon before I listened to this on Audible, so I already had a pretty good understanding as to what was going to happen. Compared to the movie, I did like the book better though! The book (like usual) had more details and I felt more of a high school vibe. I also enjoyed the ending more than the ending for the movie, because it felt good to see more of what was happening after Simon was out to everyone and he had a boyfriend. I also felt more connected to his family, and felt like they were a bigger part of his life than in the movie.
It's not a terribly long book, so I won't say anything else to spoil it. But if you enjoy contemporary stories that are heartfelt and inspiring, I would highly recommend Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda!
