The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera
4.0
I think the musical analogy works really well in this book. I am not at all technically knowledgeable about classical music but there is definitely a rhythm to this work, I felt like it was washing over me as I read, but I had to put it down in between each part to fully appreciate what had just been said. I love the way he weaves in strange elements of fantasy with stark realism, contemplative thought with analytical voyeurism. So very, very good. I will be thinking about this one for a long time to come. If I take nothing else away, I have now learned how to "play laughter".
