Secondhand Skin by Hailey Turner

5.0

5 stars - I loved it!

This was another Turner book that I couldn’t put down! Wade’s story is one that I have been eagerly waiting for since I fell in love with him during the Soulbound series. It's been five years since that series and Wade is now 23 years old, a college student, and a full pack member. He has grown up so much since his first introduction and I love seeing his progress.

Wade is sent to Boston at the request of the Boston God Pack for help with a problem. When he gets there he finds himself dealing with a fae trying to take over the city. While in the city dealing with the different factions, Wade finds himself obsessed with the selkie leader Riordan Maguire. I loved seeing Wade finally feel attraction for someone and not being afraid to act on it. Wade was so sweet with his flirting and shy at times since he is inexperienced with relationships. I loved seeing him share food with Riordan and being protective of him and his family.

Riordan is a selkie who is 400 years old and has built a community for the selkies in Boston. When he meets Wade they have an instant attraction but they take a slow and steady approach to their relationship. As the story progresses and they spend time trying to stop the enemy they get to know each other, reveal vulnerabilities, and set boundaries. It was a wonderfully paced relationship on top of an action packed book. I especially loved how Riordan realized the trauma Wade had in his past and made sure everything was consensual and never pushed his boundaries. It was so sweet and perfect. Also I love that we got a “who hurt you” scene because I love those.

The plot was action packed and filled with a bunch of new paranormal creatures. We also got to see some familiar figures from the Soulbound series and it was a great surprise, especially since we could see how far they have come since that final battle. The battle in Boston was a great story and I loved that we are seeing more of this world and the characters within it. It was great also to see Wade take charge of a situation and see how he handles things after being raised by Patrick, Jono, Sage, and the rest of the pack. You can see who is influencing him in certain scenes and it was great to see how much he has learned.

Overall, this was everything I wanted with this book. I loved Riordan and Wade so much. I am so happy we got this book and would love to read more from this world.
