A Very Oceanport Christmas by Ann-Katrin Byrde
3.0
It'a a 3.5 stars. This was simple and short, exactly what I was looking for. However, there are a few things that got me a bit bothered.
The story is about Sam, an omega who's pregnant and returning to his town. He reunites with his best friend, David, an alpha he's been in love with for a long time. But Sam is hiding something related to his pregnancy and David notices it.
I love any good hurt/comfort with a caring alpha, possibly one of my favorite combinations of all time. This is exactly that.
My problem starts with Sam and the situation around him. First, I really felt like he was awful to his parents. While I understand the trauma and how one is unsure of getting help, the guy had loving parents, a best friend and a bigger family. I get that he was afraid of their reaction, but I wish the consequences of the was explored more so that the reader can actually feel the aftermath.
Another thing that rubbed me wrong was the conflict near the end about. I understand feeling a bit betrayed, but Sam's reaction was definitely blown out of proportion to me. A talk would've been better than throw such harsh words at him. I actually felt wronged for David. Then it was resolved too fast, and Sam didn't even apologize. Yes, he is a victim, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't acknowledge his awful behaviour. I'm glad at least there was a closure with his dad.
Besides that, the best friends to lovers was cute. Part of me wished the book was longer, because the mutual pining would've been felt. Those chapters of them not being sure about who'll make the first step had me intrigued, but it was gone too quickly. Overall, this was nice.
